Cartilage Wear in Healthy and Osteoarthritis Joints

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study is designed to determine whether the outermost layer of articular cartilage deficient in Osteoarthritis (OA). Phospholipids present healthy and osteoarthritis (OA) synovial fluid show significant differences their concentration. While examining surface properties OA joints, we found that PLs molecules cannot support lubrication, increased friction was observed. Our lubrication mechanism based on a active phospholipids (SAPL) multibilayer which condition deactivated removed from under conditions. Cartilage wettability clearly demonstrated decrease hydrophobicity, contact angle, θ (theta), dropping 103° bovine 65° partially depleted 35.1° for completely surface. These results are discussed context phospholipid lubricin, each has specific roles lamellar-repulsive system. However, major indicator wear (model) introduced this study.

Similar Properties of Chondrocytes from Osteoarthritis Joints and Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Healthy Donors for Tissue Engineering of Articular Cartilage

Lesions of hyaline cartilage do not heal spontaneously, and represent a therapeutic challenge. In vitro engineering of articular cartilage using cells and biomaterials may prove to be the best solution. Patients with osteoarthritis (OA) may require tissue engineered cartilage therapy. Chondrocytes obtained from OA joints are thought to be involved in the disease process, and thus to be of insuf...

Anabolic role of lysyl oxidase like-2 in cartilage of knee and temporomandibular joints with osteoarthritis

BACKGROUND Lysyl oxidase like-2 (LOXL2) is a copper-dependent amine oxidase. Our previous studies showed that LOXL2 is elevated during mouse fracture healing. The goal of this study was to evaluate the potential of LOXL2 to act as an anabolic agent in cartilage affected by osteoarthritis (OA). METHODS LOXL2 was visualized in tissues from human knee and hip joints and temporomandibular joints ...

Ferrographic Analysis of Wear in Human Joints

Ferrography is a technique for analysing wear by means of the magnetic separation of wear particles. To evaluate its application in human joints, the results of the ferrographic analysis of saline washings of symptomatic human knees were compared with the results of the arthroscopic examination of the same knees. Ferrography was found to be an extremely sensitive monitor of articular erosion, w...

Vascular endothelial growth factor in articular cartilage of healthy and osteoarthritic human knee joints.

OBJECTIVE To determine the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNA and protein expression in normal and osteoarthritic (OA) human articular cartilage, and whether VEGF expression alters during the progression of OA. METHODS Sections from normal and OA human knee cartilage were immunotained with a polyclonal antibody recognising VEGF. In addition, total RNA was isolated from n...
